Dog Door Infrared
If you are looking for the most convenient way to let your dog or cat in and out of the house consider a dog door infrared model. Infrared technology is used on both dog and cat doors to allow animals access in and out of the home. This technology works via a digital sensor on the collar that corresponds to the door. When the pet with the collar sensor wants to go out or come in the door opens. Other animals like strays and unauthorized pets cannot get through the door.
There are various manufacturers who offer this type of door. Many of these infrared doors are made for cats because they cannot utilize traditional flap design doors. The size of the attached sensor for a cat collar is approximately half the size of a sugar cube. This ensures your cat will not be bothered by the collar sensor. Many of the cat infrared doors can be installed into your average sash window easily with no construction necessary. While small dogs may be able to fit through these window doors they are recommended for felines.
For dogs, an infrared door can be installed into an existing sliding glass door. This is called a patio pet door and is convenient for renters because you do not have to cut holes in the doors or windows. You simply slide the pet door into your existing glass door frame and the spring loaded top adjusts to the height automatically. Patio pet doors come in all kinds of sizes and configurations for every size pet. You can also find wall mount pet doors that operate via infrared technology. Unless these are self framing doors you may need the assistance of a professional installer.
When shopping for a dog door infrared model, you should know that there are batteries required. This is similar to the electronic doors that use wired power to operate. If you don't mind changing batteries every now and then one of these doors may be perfect for your home. The cost of an infrared pet door can range from around $150 to $300 depending on where you shop and what kind of product you ultimately choose for your pet.
