A patio panel door is one that fits easily into the grooved frame of your sliding glass door. The panel features sturdy tempered glass and a secure panel for your pet to enter and exit. The panel is usually made to be see-through so you can view your pet and they can see you. There are also panel doors made for traditional style doors although you may need the services of your neighborhood handyman or a professional contractor. If sawing and drilling is required and you don't have a lot of construction experience professional installation is probably your best bet.
Some pet doors use infrared or electronic technology. These are some of the most state of the art doors on the market today. These doors use a sensor attached to your pet's collar to open and close. They can also be set to a locked or unlocked position. Some even have options like In Only and Out Only. If you are shopping for an infrared or electronic door look around to see what model has the features you want at a reasonable price. Some of these are made to work with your sliding glass door, window or even a traditional door.
When trying to fit your door with pet door, proper measurements are very important. Not only do you need the measurements of your door, but your pet also. You want to make sure the opening provides ample room for your dog or cat to fit through. Take these measurements down before going shopping so you can compare them to the measurements of doors you are interested in. Top pet stores sell doors for cats, dogs and other animals.
