This type of patio door reacts to a sensor placed on your pet's collar and slides open for them. These doors prevent unauthorized entry or exit by other animals and help prevent drafty air in the home.
Before you go shopping for a pet door take the measurements of your sliding glass door. Usually the height of the door is not a big deal because the majority of patio doors for pets self-adjust using a spring loaded mechanism. You will also need to take the measurements of your dog or cat. The width and height of your pet is important because you don't want a door that is too small for them. Once you've got all your measurements in hand you're ready to browse the selection available.
You can find the patio doggie door of your dreams at any of the big pet supply stores like Petco or PetSmart. Also, you may want to try shopping online. The Internet is a vast resource for all kinds of pet supplies including pet doors. You might also want to research some training tips for after your door is installed. While most dogs and cats enjoy using a pet door it may take some getting used to. By patiently showing them the purpose of the door and how it works you can coax them into using it. Once they understand the pet door is their way in and out of the home they should have no problem using it.
